The Influencers This Generation Needs
Father's Day Message by Larry Neville
Role Models: Becoming the Influencers This Generation Needs
In a world where trending influencers rise and fall with the algorithm, there’s a desperate need for something deepe—genuine role models. Not the kind who post about values, but those who live them.
This message isn’t just for fathers or pastors—it’s for young men and women who feel the pull of purpose but haven’t yet found their way into it. If you're reading this, it’s because you feel that nudge to lead, to live with integrity, and to make a positive influence with your life.
From a sermon preached during Father’s Day, here are five truths that challenge us all to rise as examples in a generation starving for real influence.
1. You Are a Role Model—Whether You Like It or Not
“Let no one look down on you because you are young, but set an example…” — 1 Timothy 4:12
Being young doesn’t disqualify you from leadership—it may position you for it. Every day, someone is watching you. Friends. Siblings. Coworkers. Classmates.
Whether intentional or not, your life is influencing others. The question is: what kind of example are you setting?
2. God’s Design for Family Is Still the Foundation
“Be fruitful and multiply…” — Genesis 1:28
Our culture may try to redefine family, downplay marriage, or delay fatherhood—but God’s design hasn’t changed. From the beginning, He called men and women to partner in life and raise the next generation. Family isn’t a burden—it’s a blessing and a spiritual assignment.
Young people today often hesitate to get married or have children, fearing failure or a loss of freedom. But what if stepping into that role is where purpose truly begins?
3. Fear Can’t Lead Your Life—Faith Must
“God has not given us a spirit of fear, but of power, love, and self-control.” — 2 Timothy 1:7
Let’s be honest—responsibility can be scary. Whether it's leading a family, committing to a relationship, or stepping into spiritual leadership, fear whispers: You're not ready. You'll mess this up.
But fear is not from God. His Spirit empowers us to lead, love, and grow. Real maturity begins when we step forward even when we feel unsure, and trust that God will grow us along the way.
4. Real Influence Is Lived, Not Posted
“Copy my example, just as I copy Christ.” — 1 Corinthians 11:1
You don’t need a microphone or a massive platform to influence someone, you need a consistent life. Social media may elevate visibility, but your example is what shapes lives.
Integrity. Patience. Humility. Faithfulness. These things preach louder than words. Just like Jesus moved into the neighborhood and lived among people, we are called to live out the truth in everyday life.
5. Now Is Your Time to Shine
“Shine like stars in the world…” — Philippians 2:15
Too many people wait to lead, thinking they need to be older, smarter, or more experienced. But God often calls people when they’re young, uncertain, and unqualified in human terms.
This generation is filled with noise, but it's watching for light. You have the opportunity to be a star that shines in a dark sky—someone who models faith, courage, purity, and purpose.
