Day 2 Devotional RELATIONSHIPS – The Root That Carries You Through the Storms of Life
Scripture Readings:
Genesis 2:18, “The Lord God said, ‘It is not good for the man to be alone. I will make a helper suitable for him.’”
Ecclesiastes 4:9–10 , “Two are better than one… If either of them falls, one can help the other up. But someone who falls alone is in real trouble.”
Proverbs 13:20, “Walk with the wise and become wise; associate with fools and get in trouble.”
Devotional:
Life brings storms, sometimes without warning. It could be a health scare, a family crisis, or a setback that shakes your world. The question isn’t if storms will come, but whether you'll stand strong when they do.
Recently, one of the pastors in the PC Global Network was in a terrible motorcycle accident. He suffered broken ribs and serious injuries. But something powerful happened: his wife immediately flew to be with him. Thousands of people started praying. Friends and fellow pastors began reaching out. He wasn’t alone. He had roots—relational roots—that carried him.
In the beginning, God made it clear: “It is not good for man to be alone.” That was before sin entered the world, before family drama, before brokenness. Even in the perfect Garden of Eden, God said we needed each other.
That principle is still true today. You weren’t made to go solo. You were made for community.
You need people. Not just Facebook friends or Sunday acquaintances. You need people who will lift you when you’re down, pray for you when you're weak, and stand beside you when facing storms.
Like the giant Sequoia trees, the biggest living things on earth, our strength doesn’t come from standing alone. Those trees have shallow roots but survive because their roots interlock with others. They grow in groves, supporting each other underground. That's God's design for us, too.
In church life, that means showing up and connecting. Don’t just attend, belong. Get into a small group. Share meals. Ask questions. Pray together. We are called the “family of God” for a reason.
Relationships also include mentorship. You need a Paul, someone older and wiser who speaks into your life. And you need a Timothy, someone younger you encourage and help grow. Spiritual growth thrives in relationships.
Challenge: Build Relationships That Will Carry You
Let’s get practical today:
Who are your Sequoia roots? Who do you have that stands with you when storms come?
Are you building new connections? Who are you reaching out to this week?
Are you investing in others? Who are you mentoring or encouraging?
You can't wait until the storm comes to build relationships. You have to start now—before the winds blow, before the rains fall. Dig those roots deep.
Reflection:
Relationships are the root that gives your life stability and strength. You weren’t created to face life alone. God’s plan is connection. Make space for real, meaningful relationships. They are one of God's greatest gifts—and they will carry you through anything life throws at you.
Prayer:
Lord, thank You for not making me live life alone. Help me build strong relationships that will carry me through every season. Show me where I need to reach out, forgive, reconnect, or invest in someone else. Teach me to value the people You’ve placed in my life. I want to be someone others can count on, too. Help me thrive in the community. In Jesus’ name, amen.
