Till He comes . . . “Be Patient”

Larry continues teaching on what the Prophets, Jesus and the New Testament writers said to do, Until Jesuus Returns.

You can watch the video, download the audio and Larry's notes.

Covid is showing just how IMPATIENT we are.

James 5:7-11 NLT, Dear brothers and sisters, be patient as you wait for the Lord’s return. Consider the farmers who patiently wait for the rains in the fall and in the spring. They eagerly look for the valuable harvest to ripen. 8 You, too, must be patient. Take courage, for the coming of the Lord is near.9 Don’t grumble about each other, brothers and sisters, or you will be judged. For look—the Judge is standing at the door! 10 For examples of patience in suffering, dear brothers and sisters, look at the prophets who spoke in the name of the Lord. 11 We give great honor to those who endure under suffering. For instance, you know about Job, a man of great endurance. You can see how the Lord was kind to him at the end, for the Lord is full of tenderness and mercy.

No question in the New Testament that the biblical writers expected the Lord to return.

Why is Patience necessary? We don’t know when Jesus will return. Do know that this world, people, politics, sin, problems and pandemics will all be around until the LORD COMES BACK. So we need patience.

1. Remember how patient farmers are.

"Remember how patient farmers are as they wait for their valuable crops to mature and ripen. They also wait patiently for the spring and fall rains to do their work. You too must be patient! Don’t give up, because the Lord could arrive at any time!"

Lesson from Farmers? Patience when things are not in your control.

2 Peter 3:9 NLT, "The Lord isn’t really being slow about his promise, as some people think. No, he is being patient for your sake. He does not want anyone to be destroyed, but wants everyone to repent."

2. Another example of patience in the face of suffering is God’s prophets.

"Prophets who spoke in the name of the Lord. 11 We give great honor to those who endure under suffering."

The spoke the truth and it got them in trouble. Why? Truth is unpopular.

James 5:9 (NLT), “Don't grumble about each other, my brothers and sisters, or God will judge you. Remember, the great Judge is coming. He is standing at the door!”

3. James gives us the example Job. Why Job?

James 5:11, “Then remember the example of Job. Job continued to patiently trust God while enduring great pain. But we know how God fulfilled his purpose for Job and that his plan for Job ended in good because the Lord always treats us with tender compassion and merciful kindness.”

What does the Farmer teach us? God is in control.

What does the Prohets and Job teach us? God rewards patience.

Galatians 6:9 (LB), “Let us not get tired of doing what is right, for after a while we will reap a harvest of blessing IF we don't get discouraged and give up.”

What overall messages is in patience? Delay is not denial.

Isaiah 40:31 (NLT), “Those who wait on the Lord will find new strength. They will fly high on wings like eagles. They will run and not grow weary. They will walk and not faint!”

God bless and let's partice patience.
